Whether you have started running or you have been running for a long time, being fit is why you stay to run. Running is more than merely a wonderful workout. It's also time to pay a visit to and meet with friends. You are not just staying fit, you are having fun.
Need a Partner?
If you need a partner to run with, check the nearby park and local papers for any information on local running groups. Also, find out about any runs or races that are already coming up. Volunteering to help out with these fun runs is an excellent way to meet people. Through it all, you may even find a neighbor that would like to run with you.
What About Fun Runs?
Fun runs add spice to your training. You get to run down a different road with people cheering you on. It's great, when the town supports running.
Fun runs change with each event. Some give you a beer mug for finishing the race and you can eat all the ice cream that you can eat at 9 o'clock in the morning. Fun runs are playful!
What Could I Do Different?
To supply something different to your workout, try cross-training with the treadmill and stationary bike. Both machines are geared for the commencing runner to the novice run. On those rainy days, these indoor workouts are two good alternatives.
What Could I Do For Speed?
To help with your speed, you can try Fartlek Drills. These drills are unconventional speed workouts. You build up speed, run that speed for a distance, slow down and then repeat again. These drills are wonderful for the beginner runner.
Workouts that help with speed and endurance include stair climbing and hill climbing. You can climb the stairs at a high rise building or the stands at a football stadium. For hill climbing, pick a long hill. These are challenging workouts with great rewards.
Give Your Body A Rest!
After an intense workout, give your body a chance to rest. Your muscles form, when you are at rest. Constant training possibly could lead to injuries that can be avoided.
What about Trail Running?
Trail Running can take you on an adventure through the woods, or along a river or along the side of a mountain. Each new turn brings on an extraordinary view. With trail running, you are back to nature.
If you ever want to leave the traffic behind, Trail Running is a wholesome escape. There are no traffic lights, cars or people, when you run through the woods. Just birds chirping are all that you heed.
Check with your local papers. They will describe the Trail Runs in your area. You may be closer to a trail run, than you think.
You Need to Cool Down!
Remember to cool, after your run. Stretch your legs to unbend your muscles. Stretching will prevent muscle strain and muscle spasms.
Are You Prepared For A Marathon?
For some runners, the marathon is the ultimate high. This 26.2 mile race takes about 6 months to train for. It's a worthwhile challenge.
For your training, execute two short runs during the week with a stretched run on Saturday. If you initiate at ten miles, supply two miles to your long run every other week. Add distance to your brief runs, accordingly.
Your end long run should be approximately three weeks, before the marathon. Then, only run at a slow pace to hold the muscles loose. Come race day, you are ready to run.
